So what’s the difference between an Engagement and a Pre-Wedding shoot…..? Erm – nothing really – apart from timing. If it’s soon after the proposal then it’s an Engagement Shoot but if that was long enough ago to no longer count as “freshly engaged” then Pre-Wedding it is!
Either way we absolutely love them for all sorts of reasons. Firstly it’s the chance to spend a bit of time with, and get to know, lots of fun and friendly couples. We get to hear the stories of how they met, how they got together, where and when the proposal took place, and of course the plans for the wedding. Then it’s always so rewarding to turn the couple from usually being terrified of having their photograph taken (how many times have we heard “I’m not very photogenic”??) to having real fun in front of the camera. Even the guys confess at the end of the shoot how much they enjoyed it!
What else? Lots of lovely locations from countryside, to town, to seaside. Good exercise. Great conversation. New friends. Perfect.
For the couple it’s a vitally important part of ensuring they get the most beautiful and natural wedding photography they possibly can. Getting to know your photographer well, making friends, building trust and getting really comfortable in front of their camera is crucial and we find it makes a huge amount of difference come the wedding day: when the couple may be nervous about many things – but having their photograph taken will not be one of them.
We’ve had some fantastic shoots with some amazing people so far this year from London to Southport to the Lake District and of course around good old Yorkshire. Here’s a selection – enjoy!
