Alice & Kristian’s Wedding in the Yorkshire Dales

I think we’re slowly starting to become fans of this wild Summer weather. It certainly makes for an action-packed day and a lot of thinking on our feet! Alice and Kristian’s wedding was no exception.

We met Alice & Kristian almost 18 months ago now and liked them instantly: relaxed, fun, and constatly poking fun at each other. They met at Alice’s father’s business where they both work and there were plenty of jokes told about that during the speeches (boss’ daughter etc etc).  They were married a few Saturdays ago at the village church in Carleton (Skipton) and celebrated at a Reception in the grounds of Alice’s parents’ house down the road. It was also a Euro affair with many of Kristian’s family travelling over from Germany to help them celebrate.

The morning saw Alice and Kristian getting ready about half a mile apart. Both were remarkably calm and while I joined Alice and the gang to capture some of the morning preparations, Caroline got to grips with the Germans!

Alice’s favourite chocolate bar, a cheeky gift from the groom, formed a vital part of the preparation toolkit! As did the tiara which was digging in a bit….

Alice & Kristian both looking gorgeous…

This is one of our favourite dresses of the year so far designed by a family friend.

A nice moment as best man Markus catches his twin brother posing for the camera and gives him a big fat smacker!

We made the easy choice to use the fab staircase at Alice’s parents’ place for some photos before heading to church.

The Keinhorst boys were within walking distance of the church and strolled up to meet Alice’s brothers, the other ushers.

A carriage with two beautiful black horses from Hanson Carriages was Alice’s transport to church and a lovely service. As with most weddings this Summer, the heavens opened just as we left church so bride, groom and photographers galloped (some literally) back to the house for some under-cover portraits before taking advantage of a 5 minute sunny interval to head out into the beautiful gardens. The hallway of the house also made a great spot for family group shots.

This is a great tradition – the local children tying up the church gates and refusing to let the wedding party out until they are paid. No-one had any change so guess who ended up forking out…….?! (Alice is donating her gorgeous wedding brolly in return though – a nifty deal!)

5 mins of sunshine, get in!

The wedding breakfast took place in a big marquee, beautifully decorated and well insulated from the newly-commenced monsoon outside. The speeches featured a giant chicken, a bag full of feathers, a Burnley football shirt, a birthday cake and a singing grandfather…..and finally the party got well and truly underway with some serious dancefloor action.

Gorgeous cupcakes from Fanticy in Skipton.

With those speech butterflies in full flight, the groom is given a little pep talk…

You had to be there….

Love this – one of Kristian’s first lines was to state that “a difficult boss” had now become “a difficult father in law”. Don’t mince your words Kristian!

Markus, Kristian’s twin and best man, has recently moved to Canada and there was a real lump in the throat moment when Kristian admitted how much he missed him.

It was also Kristian’s nephew’s first birthday and even he wanted to say a few words.

Alice’s Grandfather was one of the stars of the show, bringing down the house and then making many reach for a tissue with a song for his Granddaughter.

The party went on long into the night and, after capturing plenty of the action, we packed up our gear and headed for home. It had been a brilliant day and a wonderful wedding. Our love and thanks to Alice and Kristian for having us on board.

And finally here is the highlights video that we put together during dinner to play for the guests during the evening. The soundtrack is the song Alice & Kristian chose for their first dance; “Stay With You” by John Legend – available for purchase here.
